This is my team…. Ezer Kenegdo (EK for short).
(Check out my previous blog post to learn about my awesome teammates!)
You are probably wondering what that means and why chose it in the first place.
First off, if you haven’t noticed, my team is all women. And Ezer Kenegdo was the Hebrew term used to describe Eve in Genesis. Translated it means ‘helper’.
Genesis 2:18, “Then the LORD God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.’”
Helper??? Of course I love helping others, but there has got to be more than helping the men out (no offense, men. Y’all are awesome and loved by God!).
Then in one of our training camp sessions, we learned a bit more about what that phrase means, and ‘helper’ is a rough translation.
‘Ezer’ is a term used multiple times throughout the Bible. It translates as either “to rescue or save” or “to be strong”, and corresponds to women, nations who Israel asked for military aid, and God as Israel’s helper.
So what does this say about us women.? ……. We are warriors, not mere helpers, rooted and strengthened by Christ our Lord, complementary to men, part of a whole, with our own talents and gifts.
As a team, we are going into this journey with our eyes open and willing to learn and grow in the strengths and gifts that God has given each of us, that we may then use those gifts to help, rescue, and fight for “the sinners, the rebels, the dreamers, and those hidden in the darkness” (lyrics from Rebels by Influence Music).
