Hey, Friends!
I know this post has been a long time coming, but I have enjoyed spending time with the Lord, my team, and the people in Chicaman, Guatemala. I’m currently in Jaco, Costa Rica now with my entire squad for the next two months! But keep scrolling to see some pictures of what Team EK was up to in Chicaman!
Intimacy Conference: For our first ministry opportunity, we helped our hosts hold a conference for pastors and their wives from Chicaman and the surrounding villages. The focus of the conference was on what it means to have an intimate relationship with God. It was so cool to see this happen because intimacy in not a concept many of these pastor looked for. But God was working and intimacy was what received. 30 people, 3 languages (English,Spanish,Pokomchi), 1 God!
Church in a Village: One Sunday, we drove about an hour and half on dirt roads to get to the village of Santa Gertrudes for a church service. I had no idea what was being said as the sermon was in Pokomchi and Spanish. However, hearing everyone praise God in their own language is amazing. Also, shout out to Katie and Antoinette for stepping up and sharing some scripture!
Market Trips: One of my favorite things to do was go to the little market to get groceries for the team. It was a little crazy as I don’t know much Spanish, but learning to communicate with the language barrier was fun! Market trips were also a great way to get to know the people of Chicaman and share with them the love of Christ!
Children’s Ministry: We were able to lots of events with the kids in nearby villages. We taught Bible stories through skits, did crafts, worshipped, and played games with the LOTS of kids.
Beauty for Ashes: We also helped put on a women’s event for the ladies in a village called La Campana. First off, it was one of the craziest back of the truck on dirt roads through the mountains ride I had ever been on. But is was so worth it. During the event, we talked about how we view God, who he is to each of us. I pray that the ladies were impacted by what we talked about and felt loved.
So now you know just a little about what we did for ministry in Chicaman, Guatemala. However, I did a lot and learned a lot more that I will hopefully post about soon!
Thanks for reading!
You captured beautiful photos of the Guatemala people. I love to visit the local markets to see the differences, usually there aren’t many from country to country. Oxo
