What I Learned in Guatemala: Part 1

Yes. I am trying to catch up on some blogs here. I know this is two months late. But better late than never, right?

Guatemala was a great first 2 months of the World Race.  If you want to read about some of our ministry opportunities, check out the blog I posted before this. However, in the midst of all the ministry, I began a journey of deepening my relationship with God.

It’s not that over the past so many years I ever forgot who God was, but I’ve struggled with setting time aside to read His word and just be with Him. Stepping into Guatemala, I was met with a beauty in creation I have not seen in a long time. The volcanos, the mountains, the flowers, the people…. all screamed the name of Jesus.

“Lord, your name is so great and powerful. People everywhere see your majesty! What glory streams from the heavens, filling the earth with the fame of your name!” (Psalm 8:9 TPT)

“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does to know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.” (Job 12:7-10 ESV)

“The heaven’s declare the glory of God; and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. Their voice goes out throughout all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.” (Psalm 19:1-4 ESV)

Every where I went, everything I saw, everyone I met, shouted the name of God, declared His glory, and revealed His majesty.

God is good. God is my Creator.

So why haven’t I spent more time with Him in recent years?

I really don’t know the answer… But I want that to change. I’ve began taking steps in intimacy with God, but developing and intimate relationship takes time. Let me tell you though, I’ve learned and grown in so many ways in the last 4 months of the World Race that I honestly have no way to describe it. God, my creator, has been taking me on a journey to know His heart, know myself, and know what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

With that being said, here is what I believe some of what God was teaching me in Guatemala…well, at least part of it.  I believe these words are from God, and I hope they resonate with you as well.

You witnessed my majesty.

How great I am.

You saw the mountains.

How vast they are.

You looked to the stars.

The multitude of them.

You felt the suffering.

Even there I am a provider.

A comforter.

You experienced my joy.

A hope beyond comprehension.

You witnessed my majesty.

Believe and Go.

Be a light.

A beacon of my power.

There are many in this world.

Many who I’m calling by name.

They need to hear.

To see.

You witnessed my majesty.

Believe and Go.

There will be trials.

And sacrifices will be made.

But I am with you.

Always.

Right now I am preparing you.

I am reminding you of who I am.

I am your creator.

I know you by name.

I love you.

I will provide for you.

I will give you strength.

And courage.

You are not alone.

I see you.

That is why I am asking you to go.

I am these things for the world too.

You witnessed my majesty.

Believe and Go.

I “believe” in God’s majesty. The question now is: How does God want me to “go”?

Thank you God, for being a God of relationships. You don’t just sit on your throne in heaven, watching us from afar. You are not disinterested in us. You are always with us. You love us and want to have an intimate relationship with us. I can’t leave the way I came. How can anyone step into even a mustard see of your presence and not desire to know you more? Not want to change from a sinful life? Not want to escape the stronghold of the enemy? Not want to forget the lies that plague their thoughts? If a mustard seed can move mountains, how much more can the embrace of your majesty change the world? It did! Your sacrifice, your son on the cross, it tore down the barrier that separated us. Opening the door once again to the hope of eternity with you, our Father… an eternity of intimacy. There’s nothing better than you.
